Trimira's win was one of 32 category-specific awards made by the International Health & Medical Media Awards program. Trimira's new technology, the program said, "allows dentists to pinpoint cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions that were once invisible to the naked eye." The FREDDIE awards competition attracts hundreds of entries from around the world. The 2009 awards represent the 35th year of encouraging and celebrating scientific excellence for this pre-eminent health and medical media competition.
The multispectral spectroscopy used in Identafi™ 3000 Ultra — which is the only device that has this technology — was developed in collaboration with The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, and British Columbia Cancer Research Centre. Multispectral technology has been characterized as a quantum leap in the visualization of mucosal abnormalities, including oral cancer or premalignant dysplasia.

The small cordless Identafi™ 3000 Ultra was created exclusively for intraoral use. The device minimizes false positives/negatives and reveals abnormalities in oral tissue missed by the naked eye. The dental-friendly design of Identafi™ 3000 Ultra enables its bright light source to fit into the mouth, which means that the user can see the area at the base of the tongue, where a great percentage of deadly tumors are found.

Identafi™ 3000 Ultra is the only device on the market that illuminates with three wavelengths of brilliant white, violet, and green-amber light.
